Samsung has only just launched its flagship Galaxy S26 series, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mills from talking about next year’s S27 series. A new leak suggests that the brand may be offering a 200MP camera sensor on next year’s Ultra phone. At the same time, it is also being speculated that the phone could be powered by an Exynos chip.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra’s primary camera reportedly revealed
The leak by an online tipster claims that Samsung is working on what is described as its “king of sensors”, the HPA. This 200MP sensor is said to measure 1/1.12 inches and support LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology, which is designed to significantly enhance dynamic range performance.
Internal timelines reportedly place the HPA’s commercial debut in 2027, with expectations that it may be exclusive to an “Ultra” or top-tier flagship model from a Chinese smartphone brand at launch.
Another reliable tipster reposted this claim, and further stated that the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to feature a new HP6 primary camera sensor. The HP6 is said to be a customised version of Samsung’s HPA sensor for in-house use. It reportedly retains a 1/1.3-inch sensor size but is claimed to deliver performance on par with the larger HPA unit.
The leak suggests that this sensor is currently scheduled for early 2027, indicating that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could be among the first devices to adopt it. Samsung has been offering the HP2 200MP camera since the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the new report hints that a major primary camera upgrade could be planned for the S27 Ultra.
The same tipster has previously claimed that Samsung will also offer upgraded ultra-wide and selfie cameras on the S27 Ultra. However, the telephoto and periscope telephoto cameras may remain unchanged.
Galaxy S27 Ultra could feature Exynos chip
Moon, the Vice President of Hardware at Samsung’s MX division, recently said that the company hopes to equip all Galaxy lineups with Exynos chips. To recall, last year’s Galaxy S25 series was entirely powered by Snapdragon chips, but the company returned to a dual-chip strategy with the current S26 series.

While the S26 and S26 Plus are equipped with the all-new Exynos 2600, the world’s first 2nm chip, the S26 Ultra features the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Therefore, there is a possibility that the S27 series, including the S27 Ultra, may entirely feature Exynos chips.
At present, it is too early to confirm the Galaxy S27 series specifications. Hence, it is advisable to wait for further reports for more clarity. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for all the updates about forthcoming Samsung phones.
