Do you happen to be a frequent flier? Chances are, you’ve often been worried about losing track of your luggage at crowded airports Alternatively, have you ever randomly lost your keys, phone or wallet, perhaps in the office?

If the answers to either of these questions happen to be yes, chances are, you’ve already heard of Apple’s AirTags. However, the AirTags aren’t the only smart tracking devices on the scene. Enter, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2.

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 tracker launched in India

The new SmartTag2 comes in a single model, with provision for ultra-wideband as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Samsung has ditched the old punch-hole design in favour of a new ring-shaped design for the same.

The new Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 features a new ‘Lost Mode’, which allows users to input their contact information via a message, for those who may find their belongings with the tracker attached to it. In case your pet likes to bolt out of the door anytime he or she gets a chance then, this feature could potentially be a saviour. Please note though, that Lost Mode works only on smartphones with an NFC reader.

The Compass View Feature guides users with arrows on their smartphones, to show the direction as well as the distance of the SmartTag in relation to where they are. It must be noted again, however, that the feature is available only on Galaxy devices which have ultra-wideband capabilities, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Battery life on the Galaxy SmartTag2, as per Samsung, has been improved as well. The company says that the Galaxy SmartTag2’s battery lasts up to 500 days on normal usage, and the same can be extended up to as many as 700 days in power-saving mode.

What’s more, Samsung’s latest smart tracker also features an IP67 water and dust resistance rating. This ensures they can keep going on about their work whether indoors or outdoors, no matter what the climate.

Similar to the original SmartTag and SmartTag+, the Galaxy SmartTag2, coupled with its Bluetooth and ultra-wideband capabilities, uses augmented reality find technology to guide users towards their belongings using their Samsung Galaxy smartphone’s camera. The device has a maximum Bluetooth range of 120 metres. What’s cool though, is that in addition to finding one’s lost possessions, the Galaxy SmartTag2 can also be used to control one’s smart home appliances.

With the Galaxy SmartTag2, security and privacy are also well taken care of. On disabling lost mode, the device automatically hides the owners’ contact information and also wipes the message left by them on the device. The companion SmartThings Find app also has a feature called “Unknown tag alerts.” What this does, is that it alerts users of unauthorised tracking by sending them a notification if the app detects an unknown SmartTag following them.
