Is slimmer always better? In 2025, phone brands increasingly seem to think so. With foldables now flaunting profiles thinner than some candy bars, Samsung is reportedly ready to launch the world’s thinnest foldable phone yet – the highly-awaited Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
According to the ever-reliable tipster Ice Universe’s post on X, the phone could measure just 8.9mm when folded and 3.9mm when unfolded, beating every foldable on the market, including Oppo’s Find N5 by 0.03mm.
The leak hints at a major statement piece from Samsung – it is serious about cementing its dominance in the foldable space, which has been slipping over the past year as we wrote about in the article below.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could set a new benchmark in foldable design
If the report holds true, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be Samsung’s slimmest and sleekest foldable yet, making last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 look chunky by comparison (which clocks in at 12.2mm when folded). The Fold 7’s slim profile is expected to play a central role in the brand’s July Unpacked event, as Samsung leans into ultra-thin designs across its 2025 lineup.
While the Z Fold 7 may win the hardware beauty contest, its internals are getting less of a glow-up. The phone is expected to retain the same 4,400mAh battery as the Z Fold 6. That’s a shame, especially in a segment where multitasking, big displays, and high-end performance often drain batteries faster than flat phones.
However, Samsung reportedly has a few tricks up its sleeve. New battery and charging technologies are rumoured to be in the works, possibly aimed at improving efficiency without increasing capacity.
Interestingly, the thinner trend isn’t hurting every phone in the lineup. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 could launch with a 4,300mAh battery; a nice bump over the Flip 6’s 4,000mAh unit. The Flip is expected to continue targeting users who prefer compact form factors but still want full-day performance.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Snapdragon and Exynos divide
Performance-wise, the Fold 7 will reportedly ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite for Galaxy chip and 12GB of RAM, continuing Samsung’s use of top-shelf silicon in its foldables. The Flip 7, however, is rumoured to feature Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chipset, renewing the strategy of chip diversification once again.
Charging speeds, meanwhile, are likely to remain at 25W wired charging, which might feel a bit underwhelming in a market that’s already playing with 45W and 65W bricks.
