For amateur and casual gamers, the best gaming monitor is the one they can afford at that moment. But for those without budget restrictions, choosing the best gaming monitors comes down to the right size, refresh rate, and more such aspects.
But what if you don’t want to do any of that fancy stuff? What if all you want is a do-it-all monitor? Surely there must be some monitor that gets it all right, right? There is, at least it comes pretty close. We’re talking about the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 – a 27-inch OLED screen, that has you covered no matter where you are on the casual-to-professional gamer scale. Having been using it for the past few weeks, here’s our Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 review.
Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 display
OLED displays are best for streaming – be it movies or shows. The punchy blacks and crisp colours of an OLED display have always been superior to regular LED screens. This holds true for everything from a compact laptop like the HP Spectre x360 or a large OLED TV like the LG evo C4. OLED screens are just better, and that’s what we have here.
The Odyssey OLED G6 brings Samsung’s decades of expertise in display tech to your games, and if you’re a fan of AAA titles, there’s a lot to love here. Games that emphasise graphics like Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Cyberpunk 2077 can flaunt the environment, NPCs and animations in all their glory. So, you will be able to see the island of Tsushima, the New York skyline or the neon streets of Night City just the way they were intended to be seen.

The OLED panel is just one aspect though. There are two more key aspects that make the visual experience great here. The first of these is the resolution. The 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 comes with 4K resolution, which means if your system and games can support it, you can enjoy them in very crisp and sharp 4K goodness. This shows in the details you see in every blade of grass, or every car windshield reflection, and yes, it is very pleasing to look at.
It’s also worth noting that with developments in tech like Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR, 4K monitors such as this one make for a great, future-proof investment to accompany your gaming laptop or desktop. Not only is upscaling tech just that good today, but a 4K monitor also leaves you room to meaningfully upgrade your setup later on.

The other aspect that’s great here is the refresh rate, which can go up to a whopping 360Hz. Now, my RTX 3060 Ti-powered system isn’t the most generous out there when it comes to pushing out more frames per second (fps), especially at 4K resolutions, but the 360Hz figure did let me enjoy games like FIFA 23 and Marvel’s Spider-Man at higher frame rates than the 100-165Hz most gamers are used to. The gameplay smoothness of a 360Hz is at a different level, and frankly, remains unmatched.

This is also paired with a 0.03ms response time. While that didn’t matter a lot to me and the games I indulged in, it is a very good figure for competitive gamers, who can ensure that the screen is as responsive as it can be, and there is no delay between your click and the gun firing in a shooting game, or a joystick flick translating to a rainbow skill in FIFA.
Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 design and features
Up front, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 looks like any other 27-inch gaming monitor. It isn’t a head-turner like some other entries in the Odyssey series, like the G9 we reviewed last year (video embedded below). However, this isn’t the case for the back panel.
Samsung’s signature CoreLighting circle throws some colourful lighting on your wall and adds to the gamer-feel of the entire setup. The monitor also includes a metallic design, so the few times you hold it while tilting or adjusting the screen, it still feels premium to touch.

The stand, meanwhile, is a height-adjustable one, and lets you have the monitor quickly go down and up with a push to match your height. I used this to actually sit upright, which means there was no fatigue even after hours of playing FIFA.
We also loved the small touches to ensure that the monitor cools itself over time and automatically reduces the brightness on static on-screen objects – both of which help reduce any risk of burn-ins massively. There are also a host of ports to choose from, including both HDMI and DisplayPort outlets, and the on-screen controls to tune the picture on the monitor was also very helpful.

One aspect that felt a tad odd was the joystick-like menu control switch. While we have used the joystick on other Odyssey monitors and found them handy, the off-centre placement here felt inconvenient.
Especially considering it is not on the bottom, but behind the panel, I was always left feeling the panel around for a few seconds before finding the switch. The switch itself too didn’t feel sturdy, so handling it with care remains the best approach.
Unboxed Take: Who should buy the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6?
The Samsung Odyssey G6 OLED is a fantastic monitor, even at the price of Rs 87,300. While it is slightly on the expensive side for 27-inch monitors, it offers an OLED panel, 4K resolution, 360Hz refresh rates and many other features. For someone who wants to get one monitor for all their gaming and media needs and not worry about missing out on any aspect, this is a great buy.
For these reasons, we rate the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 4.5/5. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for more in-depth reviews just like this, and all things tech.
