Spotify rolls out three major upgrades to its lyrics feature worldwide

Spotify has announced a series of updates aimed at improving how listeners interact with song lyrics inside the app. The changes focus on accessibility, engagement and usability, reflecting the company’s continued effort to make lyrics a more central part of the music experience.

The latest rollout adds new capabilities that expand how lyrics are viewed and accessed across different listening scenarios.

Global lyric translations arrive

One of the major additions is the worldwide availability of lyric translations. The feature was originally introduced in select regions, but it is now expanding to all users globally. When supported tracks are played, listeners can tap a translation icon within the lyrics view to see translated lines appear below the original text.

The language shown depends on the device settings, and users can switch back to the original lyrics whenever needed. Both Free and Premium users will have access to this feature, although availability still depends on whether translations exist for specific songs.

Offline lyrics support for Premium users

Spotify is also enabling lyrics to be available without an internet connection. When Premium subscribers download songs for offline listening, the associated lyrics will automatically be stored alongside the audio files.

This ensures that users can follow along even when travelling, commuting underground or in areas with limited connectivity. The move expands offline functionality beyond music playback alone and highlights Spotify’s focus on keeping lyrics accessible in more situations.

New lyric preview layout in Now Playing

Another change involves how lyrics appear visually within the app. A redesigned layout places lyric previews directly below album artwork or Canvas clips on the Now Playing screen. Early testing suggests that presenting lyrics in a more prominent position encourages greater engagement and helps listeners rediscover tracks. The preview feature is rolling out globally for both Free and Premium users on mobile and tablet devices, and can be disabled through settings if required.
