Iconic endless runner sequel coming this February

We’re getting Subway Surfers 2 before GTA 6!

If “Subway Surfers but bigger” has ever crossed your mind, SYBO is officially making it happen. The studio behind one of the most downloaded mobile games of all time has announced Subway Surfers City, a full-fledged sequel to the 2012 phenomenon. And in a twist “no one” saw coming, Subway Surfers 2 is arriving before GTA 6. Heh.

The announcement arrives alongside a cinematic trailer that puts a spotlight on Subway City, the new setting for the franchise’s next chapter.

Rather than a single looping track, the sequel is built around four distinct, unlockable neighbourhoods at launch: The Docks, Southline, Sunrise Blvd, and Delorean Park. SYBO says additional districts will be added each season, alongside new characters, outfits, and hoverboards.

New city, new modes, familiar chaos

While the core high-speed running and split-second dodging gameplay mechanics remain intact, Subway Surfers City adds a few new tricks to the formula. Players gain access to abilities like a stomp move and a bubblegum shield that can boost jumps and open up fresh routes through each neighbourhood. It is still about rhythm and reflexes, but with more room to experiment.

The sequel also broadens its scope with three game modes. Classic Endless brings back the traditional score-chasing experience longtime fans expect. City Tour introduces finite, level-based runs with clear objectives, hidden stars, and mission-driven progression across districts. Events rotate in timed challenges and trials designed to test even veteran players.

“At its core, Subway Surfers City is the next chapter of Subway Surfers’ nearly 15-year-long legacy”, said SYBO CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig, adding that the studio wanted to give players “an entirely new way to interact with the IP”.

Subway Surfers City launches on February 26 for mobile devices, with preregistration now live on the game’s official site. Will you be indulging in a bit of 2010s nostalgia and giving this one a try? Let us know in the comments below.
