Vivo V60 first impressions

A slim slice of power and portrait perfection

Vivo V60 first impressions

When a phone looks as good as the newly-launched Vivo V60, you almost want to skip the spec sheet and just let it sit there on your desk, collecting compliments. But you don’t have to, Vivo’s latest mid-range bet isn’t just another pretty face. Beneath that glossy, ultra-slim frame is some serious tech muscle.

Launched yesterday, the Vivo V60 brings notable upgrades over its predecessor, the V50. With a focus on photography excellence and design, this phone aims to stand out instantly. Here are our first impressions to see if it had us smitten at first glance.

Vivo V60 build and design

The Auspicious Gold variant exudes elegance at first sight. Its silk-textured back has a hint of rose gold that catches the light in a subtle, sophisticated way.

The Moonlit Blue model we’ve photographed, meanwhile, is the conversation starter. It’s bold, eye-catching, even borderline flashy. Meanwhile, the Mist Grey colourway is tailored for those who prefer understated sophistication.

At just 7.5 mm thin, the V60 somehow houses a 6,500 mAh SiC battery. It’s the kind of engineering trick that makes you flip it over twice to check if Vivo’s designers have bent the laws of physics.

Now, slim phones often feel fragile, but the sleek Vivo V60 backs up its looks with IP68 and IP69 ratings, Schott AG’s Diamond Shield Glass, and the ability to survive up to 120 minutes underwater. In short, it’s not just a pretty thing, it’s a pretty tough thing.

Vivo V60 display

The Vivo V60 has a gorgeous quad-curved AMOLED display. With razor thin bezels and a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate, this is a phone that’s made for content consumption on-the-go.

It offers 10-bit colour support, HDR10+ certification, and an eye-watering 5,000 nits of local peak brightness. So, even during searingly-bright Delhi afternoons, you won’t be squinting to view the screen.

For night-time viewing, there’s 2,160 Hz PWM dimming and SGS low blue light certification onboard, so your late-night reel-scrolling won’t leave your eyes feeling overworked. As screens go, this one leaves little to complain about, but we’ll reserve our full judgement for the review.

Vivo V60 cameras

Photography remains front and centre on the V60, thanks to Vivo’s ongoing partnership with Zeiss. It houses a triple rear setup which includes a 50 MP primary shooter, a 50 MP ultra-zoom telephoto (borrowed from the flagship Vivo X200), and an 8 MP ultra-wide. The telephoto’s 10x zoom is a dream for outdoor shots. Though indoors, at that range, you might notice a touch of grain.

But it’s not just about hardware. Zeiss Multifocal Portraits bring five classic focal lengths including 23 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm, and 100 mm. This allows for cinematic framing straight out of the camera.

Add to that the Aura Light ring for flattering night portraits and the new Wedding Vlog mode in the Micro Movie tab, and you have a phone ready for both life’s big moments and its everyday snapshots. We will, of course, test out the camera more thoroughly in our full review, so stay tuned for that, but as far as first impressions go, consider us mighty impressed already.

Vivo V60 performance, software and AI

Powering the V60 is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a welcome upgrade for the V-series, which is paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. With the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, the phone should feel considerably snappier than its predecessor.

What’s more intriguing than the processor is Vivo’s AI push with the V60. Google Gemini comes baked in, while Funtouch OS 15 adds AI tools like Image Expander (to extend photo edges without distortion), AI Erase (bye-bye photobombers), and AI Photo Enhancer (hello, Insta likes).

The AI Smart Call Assistant can transcribe, translate, and summarise calls on the fly. So, Vivo has packed the V60 with some genuinely useful AI features.

As for software, it boots with FuntouchOS 15 out of the box, and Vivo has promised a whopping four years of OS updates, and six years of security patches, so it’s got future-proofing covered.

Vivo V60 battery

The Vivo V60’s 6,500 mAh SiC battery is a headline feature; even more so in a phone this slim. Paired with 90 W FlashCharge, it’s designed for long days with quick top-ups.

Vivo’s stamina claims are impressive, and while we haven’t tested its battery life yet, the blend of capacity and charging speed should keep battery anxiety at bay.

The early Unboxed take

Starting at Rs 36,999, the Vivo V60 jumps straight into battle with the likes of the Realme GT 7, Oppo Reno 14, and OnePlus Nord 5. Its weapons of choice? That impossibly slim body housing a giant battery, Zeiss-tuned cameras that make you want to shoot more portraits, and AI features that feel genuinely useful.

It’s too early to declare it the new mid-range king, but one thing is clear; the Vivo V60 strikes a fine balance between form and function. It’s a phone that turns heads and keeps delivering long after the compliments fade.
