WhatsApp Plus, a paid subscription plan could be in works; here’s what to expect

WhatsApp could soon introduce a new subscription offering for regular users. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is working on a premium plan called WhatsApp Plus that may bring additional features for subscribers.

WhatsApp Plus may focus on personalisation

The report suggests that WhatsApp Plus is currently under development for both Android and iOS. The subscription plan is expected to introduce several options that allow users to customise the look of the app. These could include new themes, accent colours and a set of alternative app icons.

Users may reportedly get access to around fourteen additional icon designs, along with more colour options for the interface. Another feature under consideration is the ability to pin more conversations in the chat list.

At present, WhatsApp allows users to pin only three chats at the top of the inbox. With WhatsApp Plus, this limit may increase to 20 pinned conversations. For people who manage multiple important chats, the higher limit could make it easier to keep key conversations visible.

The subscription tier is also expected to introduce exclusive audio alerts. These ringtones may only be available to paid subscribers and could help distinguish WhatsApp calls from notifications generated by other applications.

Exclusive stickers and enhanced reactions may also arrive

WhatsApp Plus may also introduce additional elements aimed at making conversations more expressive. Subscribers could gain access to sticker packs that are not available in the standard version of the app. Some message reactions may also become more interactive, adding visual depth to chats.

Reports indicate that more features could be added to the subscription plan over time. However, the core messaging experience will remain free. Sending messages, voice and video calls, media sharing, group chats and privacy tools will continue to be available to all users without a fee.

At the moment, WhatsApp has not confirmed the pricing of the Plus plan or its launch timeline. The features mentioned in early reports could also change before the subscription becomes available publicly.
