WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets select beta testers chat with Meta AI in real time on iOS. This update moves interactions beyond the keyboard, allowing you to simply speak your requests and questions.
Android users in the beta programme have already been enjoying hands-free chats with the AI for a little while. Now, iOS users are finally getting in on the action with the latest TestFlight beta release.
How to use the new feature
You have two main ways to kick off a voice chat, each with a different vibe. Launching Meta AI from your Chats tab presents a new waveform icon you can tap to begin speaking. There is even a setting to make this automatic, though it is wisely turned off by default so you always stay in control.
The more direct route is through the Calls tab. Opening Meta AI from there instantly starts the voice session without any extra taps.
The updated interface offers helpful conversation starters if you are feeling a bit of prompt-writer’s block. You can also quickly fire off photos from your gallery or camera directly from the text input area.

The real magic, however, happens when you multitask. You can collapse the voice session, which allows Meta AI to keep listening and helping while you do other things on your phone – like browsing a website or reading your notes aloud.
The discovery, first reported by WABetaInfo, is currently live in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.21.10.76. It is rolling out gradually over the coming weeks, so keep an eye on your app.
