Xiaomi 17 Air may feature an ultra-thin build, rival the iPhone Air

May offer better value than market giants

Xiaomi 17 Air may feature an ultra-thin build, rival the iPhone Air

Earlier this year, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, featuring an ultra-thin design. Apple followed suit with the launch of the iPhone Air, which sports an impressively slim 5.6mm body. With two major smartphone brands entering the ultra-thin segment, other Android phone makers are now expected to follow.

In China, Huawei is reportedly preparing to launch the Huawei Mate 70 Air, while Motorola has already introduced its X70 Air with a sleek, lightweight profile. Now, a new leak suggests that Xiaomi is also developing its own entry in the category, the alleged Xiaomi 17 Air.

Xiaomi 17 Air key specifications tipped

According to tipster Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi is testing a new ultra-thin flagship equipped with a 6.6-inch display, which will likely support a crisp 1.5K resolution. While the official name of the device is not confirmed, it is expected to launch as the Xiaomi 17 Air.

The 17 Air’s display is said to feature a large, rounded-corner design, while its body will adopt a “cold-sculpted” metallic aesthetic, offering a delicate yet premium look and feel. Another major highlight is its 200MP main camera, which could make it one of the thinnest phones with such a powerful sensor.

To create more space for a larger battery, Xiaomi may include eSIM connectivity instead of a physical SIM tray. For comparison, the iPhone Air houses a 3,194mAh battery, and the Galaxy S25 Edge packs a 3,900mAh unit. The Xiaomi 17 Air, however, is rumoured to feature a significantly larger 5,000mAh battery, which would be an impressive engineering feat for such a slim device.

Xiaomi 17 Air launch expectations

The Xiaomi 17 Air will reportedly join the existing Xiaomi 17 lineup, which already includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Apart from these, Xiaomi is also said to be working on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, a top-tier camera flagship expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip.

Rumours suggest that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may debut by the end of this year. However, there is still no information about the Xiaomi 17 Air’s launch timeline or whether this ultra-thin model will make its way to global markets outside China.
