Xiaomi 17 in India could offer a big battery, slim design combo

Last month, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 17 series of flagship phones in China. For those who are unaware, the company skipped the Xiaomi 16 branding, making the Xiaomi 17 series the successor to the Xiaomi 15 lineup.

Since the Xiaomi 15 lineup was launched globally in March 2025, it is likely that the Xiaomi 17 series may hit the global market, including India, in March 2026. A new leak by a reliable source has revealed the battery size of the Xiaomi 17’s global edition.

Xiaomi 17's battery details revealed

Xiaomi offered different battery sizes on the Xiaomi 15’s China and global versions. While the Chinese edition came with a 5,400mAh battery, its global edition featured a smaller 5,240mAh unit.

Coming to the Xiaomi 17, this compact flagship’s Chinese edition houses a massive 7,000mAh battery. According to Kacper Skrzypek, who is known for reliable Xiaomi leaks, the Xiaomi 17’s global edition will feature a 6,330mAh battery, which, in comparison to the Chinese version, is smaller. However, it is still considerably larger than the Xiaomi 15’s global version, all while maintaining a compact build.

The rest of the Xiaomi 17’s global version specifications may remain identical to its Chinese counterpart. This means that the Xiaomi 17 will arrive with a 6.3-inch AMOLED screen offering a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz high refresh rate.

The inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor would mean that the Xiaomi 17 will be on par in performance with Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to launch in January 2026.

The phone will pack four 50-megapixel cameras, three on the back and one on the front for selfies and video calls. One of the rear cameras will be a telephoto sensor offering 2.6x optical zoom with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support.

Another major highlight of the Xiaomi 17 is that it will run the latest Android 16 OS, layered with Xiaomi HyperOS 3 UI, which is expected to bring improvements to the interactive notification bar and significantly enhanced ecosystem connectivity. It is also expected to support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Xiaomi 17 expected launch timeframe

Xiaomi India is currently silent about the Xiaomi 17’s arrival. Considering that it is expected to launch in March 2026 in the country, official teaser may surface in February.

Xiaomi 17 is expected to compete with the already available Apple iPhone 17 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 in India. While there is no information about its price, it could be priced at around Rs 65,000, aligning with the previous generation.
