Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 15 Ultra in February 202,5 and the reports surrounding its successor have claimed that it will debut much earlier than expected. After weeks of speculation, today Xiaomi released an official confirmation that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will debut next week in China. While the launch date is still a mystery, the official teaser reveals that the company aims to deepen its cooperation with camera brand Leica with its next flagship phone.
Xiaomi deepens collab with Leica
Xiaomi has officially announced a major upgrade to its global imaging partnership with Leica, with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra becoming the first smartphone developed under a new “strategic co-creation” model. This deeper collaboration brings both companies together from the earliest stages of product design, aiming to rethink mobile photography beyond conventional limits.
As part of this effort, Xiaomi has introduced a next-generation optical system and the first Leica APO-certified telephoto lens for smartphones. The new imaging setup focuses on improved colour accuracy, cleaner night photography, better dynamic range, and greater creative freedom in long-range photography, marking a significant step forward in Xiaomi’s imaging ambitions.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra to sport triple cameras
All the Xiaomi Ultra-branded phones launched in the past have featured a quad-camera setup. However, this time around, the 17 Ultra is said to feature a triple camera unit, headlined by a 50MP OmniVision OVX10500U primary camera, which could be a 1-inch sensor.
The main snapper is expected to be joined by a 50MP ultra-wide lens and a 200MP Samsung HPE periscope telephoto camera. For selfies, it may feature a 50MP OV50M sensor. These leaked camera specs suggest that the 17 Ultra will offer an ultimate photography experience.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra India launch timeframe (rumoured)
Xiaomi is known for launching its Ultra-branded flagship phone first in China before making it available in other markets. A recent report claimed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 will debut globally, including in India, in March 2026. These devices will be the first Xiaomi phones to come preinstalled with HyperOS 3-based Android 16.
