The upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra has appeared in a new batch of concept images shared by XiaomiTime. The images showcase two versions of the photography kit design for the device. They further reveal a new rear camera design direction, shifting from the quad-camera setup seen on the previous generation to a triple-camera setup on the 17 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra photography kit’s concept visuals shared by the publication indicate that it could arrive in a light sand-like tone and a darker classic shade. The grip mirrors an earlier design, featuring a physical capture key and a textured surface for better stability.

What’s surprising is that the images suggest the 17 Ultra has a triple-camera setup instead of the quad-camera configuration used previously.

While the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is said to pack one less camera on the back, it is expected to offer a bigger jump in resolution and sensor size. The previous model included two separate zoom cameras: a 50MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with 4.3x optical zoom.

The new leak suggests that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will switch to a single 200MP zoom sensor with a wider detailed capture range instead of using dual telephoto lenses. This move suggests the phone aims for clearer optical framing and improved cropping flexibility rather than relying on multiple zoom sensors.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera is said to include a 50MP OmniVision OVX10500U primary sensor, a 200MP Samsung S5KHPE periscope telephoto unit, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera based on either the OmniVision OV50M or Samsung S5KJN5 platform. For selfies, the report mentions a 50MP lens using the OmniVision OV50M sensor. At present, there is no clarity as to why the company has opted for these rear camera sensors.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra launch timeframe (expected)

According to other reports, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, paired with a new software layer based on HyperOS 3. While the Xiaomi 17’s Pro models have a secondary rear display, the Ultra edition may not feature it.

Recent reports also suggest that one of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra variants will support satellite connectivity. It may go official as early as December in China, as it has secured all the major certifications in the country.
