High-quality laminated prints in a minute

Xiaomi has a new pocket-sized photo printer

Xiaomi has officially dropped its new Portable Photo Printer Pro. The device resembles a power bank in form and is an impressive gadget for anyone wanting physical copies of their camera roll.

Expect extremely crisp prints out of this one, thanks to the use of dye-sublimation technology. But it also means you’ll be buying both special paper and ink cartridges, so keep those running costs in mind. The printer itself ships with a starter pack for just 10 photos.

The Portable Photo Printer Pro is here

Xiaomi is promising high-definition results with a 313 DPI resolution. It boasts a wide colour gamut capable of hitting 16.7 million colours and 256 distinct levels of greyscale. The coolest part might be the finish. The printer automatically applies a laminate layer to every photo. This clever trick protects your snaps from everyday moisture and stops them from fading over time.

The prints themselves are pretty compact, measuring just 50 by 76 millimetres. It takes about one minute to complete a full print. The internal tray can hold 10 sheets of standard paper or 5 of the photo sticker sheets.

The device is properly pocketable at 86.8 x 142.5 x 26.8 mm. An internal 880 mAh battery means you can print without scrambling for a power bank. It connects over Bluetooth, and you can even share the fun. The printer supports up to three simultaneous users, provided everyone has a Xiaomi Home account.

The real magic happens in the Xiaomi Home app. This is where you access all the creative filters and fun templates. You can design romantic photo strips, make sticker collages of your pet, or use the photo booth auto-collage burst mode.

The app also unlocks some wild AR features. You can print “live photos” which animate when you scan them with your phone. You can even embed video (up to 15 seconds) or audio (up to 60 seconds) into a print. Scanning the AR photo brings the memory to life right in front of you. The app also handles all the customisation, letting you add unique borders, text, and dates to personalise your shots.

The Xiaomi Portable Photo Printer Pro is popping up in Europe now. It’s listed in the UK for £109.99 (Rs 12,974). An Indian launch hasn’t been announced as of yet.
