Instagram has offered the ability to use songs on stories for a while. Be it licensed music or copyright-free tracks, Instagram’s huge library is perfect to display your music taste and mood.

Now, Meta, the company that owns both Instagram and WhatsApp, has rolled out the same music ability to WhatsApp. And what’s interesting is that it uses the Instagram music library, which has a good collection of tracks.

So, if you want to look cool or simply show off your mood and music taste, here’s how you can add music to your WhatsApp status.

A guide on adding music to your WhatsApp status

The ability to add music to your WhatsApp status is new and is gradually rolling out. Having said that, if you don’t see an option to add music to your status updates, don’t fret. The feature should arrive soon, but in the meantime, you can keep your WhatsApp updated. Once done, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your Android phone or iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on Updates.

Step 3: Click on ‘Add status’.

Step 4: Select photos or videos to which you want to add music. Notably, you can only add music to media files.

Step 5: Now, tap on the music icon and select the song of your song from the vast music library.

Step 6: Once done, continue as per the instructions shown on the screen. You can select the exact part you want to add to your status. Hit continue, and the music should be added to the photo/video.

Step 7: Lastly, hit send.
