AI searches to become easier with this new Google app feature

Ever since Google entered the AI landscape, it has been integrating artificial intelligence into its various services. Be it adding Google Lens to Maps or AI-powered Tab Organiser for Chrome, Google is committed to AI-fying everything Google. Next on the list: the Google Search app on Android smartphones.

What is the new Google app feature?

AssembleDebug, a well-known source of app leaks, in partnership with PiunikaWeb, first reported on this new feature. Basis the video shared, Google is experimenting with a Gemini switch within the Google app for Android. The overall experience and design seem similar to how it is present on the Google iOS app.

With this new feature, you can search within the app in two ways – the traditional Google Search or via a prompt to Gemini. With the toggle on Gemini, you can interact with the chatbot by typing, talking, or sharing an image. In case you want to use the traditional Google Search and Discover interface, just switch to Google Search.

Also spotted in the video are the updated shortcuts/buttons for Gallery, Translate, Homework, and Sing. While these buttons already exist, the colour-coding is a refreshing change that immediately catches the eye.

Why is this feature exciting?

Currently, to use the Gemini app on your Android smartphone or tablet, you have to make it the primary AI guide over Google Assistant. With this integration of Gemini into the Google app, there’s no need to choose between the two – you can have Google Assistant as the primary AI for your device and enjoy Gemini via the Google app.

When will this feature be available?

As there is no official announcement from Google about this feature, there is no timeline for when it will roll out. However, you can still use Gemini on your Android via the standalone app or browser.

As per Google Search Help, a new version of the Google app is usually released about every three weeks. Make sure you keep your app updated to receive the new features as soon as they are released. Or you can sign up as a beta tester to get early access to experimental features before they are released.
