Apple may be a master of polished keynotes and tightly controlled product launches, but every now and then the company itself drops the biggest spoiler. The latest slip-up came straight from the company’s own Apple TV app.
For a short while, an event banner appeared on the platform, revealing that the new iPhone launch is set for September 9. The page was swiftly pulled down, but not before screenshots began doing the rounds on X. The artwork showed the Apple logo lit up in bright purple rays, almost like a spotlight breaking through the dark.
A subtle nod to Air
Look closer, and the design choice of the teaser banner feels deliberate. Tech sleuths have pointed out that the purple glow is reminiscent of the original MacBook Air wallpaper, a likely nod to the much-rumoured iPhone Air.

This would be the first time Apple extends the “Air” branding to its smartphone lineup; a move that hints at a thinner, lighter design meant to stand out against the Pro models.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Apple gave this new “Air” edition plenty of attention on stage. After all, a new name in the iPhone family is a rare event, and Apple knows how to make it feel like the dawn of a new category.
Slip-up or strategy?
The bigger question is whether the launch date leak was an actual mistake or a carefully orchestrated tease. Apple traditionally sends out invites in the final week of August, so an early post feels just out of character enough to spark debate. Pulling the page quickly only adds fuel to the theory that it was a calculated leak designed to set the rumour mill ablaze.
Accident or not, the calendar is now marked. All eyes will be on the Cupertino-based tech giant on September 9 to see how it positions the new iPhone lineup, and whether the mysterious new “Air” becomes the breakout star.
