Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series might hit your wallet harder; unless you’re eyeing the standard model. According to a recent investor note by Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, the Cupertino giant is reportedly planning to increase prices across most of its next-generation iPhones, citing rising component costs and geopolitical tariffs. The base iPhone 17, however, is expected to retain its predecessor’s price. Here’s what’s known so far.
What’s changing and what’s staying
If you’re after the slim, the pro, or the maxed-out variant, brace yourself for a bump. The new iPhone 17 Air, expected to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, could start at $949 (approx. Rs 83,020), marking a $50 (approx. Rs 4,374) hike from last year.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max may also see similar jumps, starting at $1,049 (approx. Rs 91,768) and $1,249 (approx. Rs 109,265) respectively. Only the base iPhone 17 is expected to stick to the familiar $799 (approx. Rs 69,898) tag.
So, what’s with the price jump? Blame it on more expensive components and the continuing tariff friction between the US and China. Apple may also be factoring in potential import duties from India, though those haven’t been priced in just yet.
Beyond the price tag
Beyond the numbers, the next iPhones are expected to bring notable internal upgrades. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are tipped to debut with Apple’s A19 chip, while the Pro models will run on the more powerful A19 Pro. RAM is getting a boost too – 8GB on the base, and 12GB on the higher-end models.

On the camera front, the Pro versions might pack a 48MP telephoto lens and a new 12MP selfie shooter. A new vapour chamber cooling system and scratch-resistant, anti-reflective display coating are also in the cards, which is Apple’s clearest signal yet that it’s taking gaming and durability more seriously.
When to expect the iPhone 17 series launch
Mark your calendars for the second week of September. That’s when Apple is expected to officially lift the curtain on the iPhone 17 lineup.
With a mix of familiar silhouettes and internal overhauls, this year’s launch seems to follow Apple’s classic playbook, incremental refinement with just enough flash to make you consider the upgrade.

Hopefully they get a Samsung 25 equivalent camera. Apple has lagged so far behind in the camera. All the price increases better be worth it. I have an iPhone 16 pro max, 17 pro max better have much more or I’m not upgrading
