The upcoming foldable iPhone is the news once again, this time through a set of CAD-based renders that appear to offer the clearest look yet at Apple’s first foldable phone. While the images do not confirm a launch timeline, they reveal several design choices that hint at how Apple may approach the foldable form factor differently from its rivals.
iPhone Fold CAD-based render reveals unusual dimensions
According to the leaked CAD files, which were reportedly shared with accessory and case manufacturers, the iPhone Fold (tentative name) adopts a wide-folding design rather than the tall layouts commonly seen on Android foldables. When unfolded, the device opens in landscape orientation, suggesting that Apple wants the inner display to behave more like a compact tablet.
This could allow better compatibility with iPad apps without requiring developers to redesign their software. The inner folding screen is said to measure 7.76 inches diagonally, carrying a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels. The outer cover display is comparatively smaller at 5.49 inches, with a resolution of 1422 x 2088 pixels, resulting in an unconventional aspect ratio.
In terms of dimensions, the device reportedly measures 120.6 x 83.8 x 9.6mm when folded and 120.6 x 167.6 x 4.8mm when unfolded.
The renders also indicate an under-display selfie camera on the inner screen, while the cover display features a hole-punch cutout for the front camera. On the rear, the iPhone Fold appears to house two cameras placed inside an oval-shaped camera bar that resembles the design language of the iPhone Air.
Other specs
Reports have suggested that it will feature e-SIM support, dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, and a side-mounted Touch ID sensor instead of Face ID to keep the device slim. Under the hood, it is expected to feature the next-generation Apple A20 Pro chip.
Apple is yet to confirm the arrival of the iPhone Fold. However, rumours suggest a September 2026 debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.
