One of the biggest changes on the new iPhone 15 series was the switch to USB Type-C. With all four new iPhone variants finally making the switch to the Type-C port, the brand’s smartphones finally joined the rest of the lineup in adopting the same charging and data syncing port. However, Apple now had a bigger problem – accessories that still sported a Lightning Port.

Apple, however, is quick to make changes on this front, soft-launching a new pair of AirPods Pro Gen-2 alongside the iPhone 15 series last month, with the only change being a Type-C port replacing the Lightning connector. Now, Apple has revealed a new accessory with the port, and that’s the Apple Pencil Gen 3.

Apple Pencil Gen 3: What’s new?

The Apple Pencil Gen 3, for the uninitiated, is Apple’s own stylus for its iPad lineup. Beyond being a precise pointing and scribbling tool, the Apple Pencil also offers numerous smart features with Apple’s products, hardly a surprise in Apple’s focus on its seamless ecosystem.

The new Apple Pencil Gen 3 can be used for note-taking, sketching, annotation, and even writing. Apple claims the new stylus features advanced precision and low latency, allowing the experience of using the stylus more akin to using a real pencil on a notebook. However, the highlight here remains the charging port.

The Apple Pencil Gen 3 comes with a USB Type C port, that’s neatly tucked in under a sliding cover on the bottom of the device. The Type-C charging now allows users to charge their Apple iPads and the new Apple Pencil Gen 3 with the same cables. The stylus also automatically enters a sleep state to preserve battery life when it is magnetically attached to an iPad post-usage.

However, since the new Apple Pencil Gen 3 is meant to be an affordable alternative, it does miss out on some features of the Gen 2. This includes pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing and charging, a double tap gesture to switch between tools and the ability to add a free engraving to the product during purchase.

Users who need these features must still go for the Apple Pencil Gen 2 and use a Lightning to Type-C adapter for charging with the same cable as their iPads.

The new Apple Pencil Gen 3 is priced at Rs 7,900 and will be available from early November from Apple Stores, the Apple Website, and authorised retailers.
