Apple’s annual WWDC is set to take place from June 8 this year. The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to reveal the next generation of software updates for its devices at the event. In the latest development, framed Apple analyst Mark Gurman reports that a new version of Siri could arrive alongside iOS 27 and macOS 27.

Apple working on a standalone Siri app

Apple is reportedly working on a dedicated Siri app instead of embedding it within the system. This means that instead of triggering the assistant, users can open it like a regular app – similar to Gemini on smartphones. The standalone app will act as a central hub for all AI interactions. Notably, Apple won’t replace Siri’s system-wide presence. Instead the app will build on advanced Siri capabilities when they release.

Gurman notes that the standalone version of Siri is currently in testing phase on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It is internally codenamed ‘Campo’. The assistant may work like an AI chatbot and no longer be limited to voice commands. Users can interact through voice and text. The dedicated app could also integrate with services like Messages, Safari, and some third-party apps.

The report also states that Apple is working on a redesigned interface for Siri. Once activated, the assistant will nudge the user to ‘Search or Ask’. When processing a request,  a label ‘Searching’ will appear in the Dynamic Island’s pill-shaped indicator. The interface will expand into a large translucent panel once the results are ready.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning to replace Spotlight with Siri to find local content and broader queries in one place. Apple will also reportedly add ‘Write with Siri’ at the top of the keyboard as a part of its more capable features.

Gurman reiterates that the advanced Siri capabilities still won’t be ready until this fall.
