Company's boldest bet on AI hardware

Apple reportedly working on three AI-powered hardware products

Recently Apple confirmed its first event of 2026 which is expected to see the arrival of affordable MacBooks, iPhone 17e, and other products. The Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to release a significantly upgraded Siri later this year after long delays.

Now, famed analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on three AI-powered hardware products. These include smart glasses, pendant, and upgraded AirPods with AI capabilities.

Apple eyes AI-driven hardware products

Citing people familiar with the matter, Gurman notes that Apple’s smart glasses, pendant, and upgraded AirPods will come with a built-in camera and rely on iPhone connection to operate. They are said to be built around Siri to rely on visual context to perform and carry out actions.

Apple’s smart glasses will be consumer-friendly unlike the Vision Pro headset. However, they are expected to be positioned as an advanced offering in the company’s AI hardware lineup.

The Cupertino-based tech giant will also face competition from Meta’s eyewear. Apple’s smart glasses will reportedly feature high-end camera to capture photos and videos. They will be able to make phone calls, play music, and access Siri. The glasses are also positioned as an all-day AI companion offering contextual awareness.

The company also aims to add advanced features like converting printed data into digital and voice-enabled navigation instead of a virtual map.

The report mentions that the company has made significant progress on the product internally codenamed N50 with production expected to commence in December this year and a public release slated in 2027.

AI Pendant and AirPods

Beyond smart glasses, Apple is also planning to add outward facing cameras on AirPods that was also previously rumoured. This will allow the device to gather relevant data about the user’s surroundings. The brand has already been making improvements to AirPods with recent models. The AirPods with built-in camera is expected to debut later this year.

Coming to the pendant, Apple is reportedly designing it in two ways – one that can be attached to a clothing or worn as a necklace. It seems quite similar to the failed Humane AI Pin. The wearable device will come with an always-on camera and the company is debating whether or not to include a speaker. This way, users could get AI assistance without having pull out their smartphones.

None of these devices have been confirmed by Apple. However, Gurman’s track record is quite excellent, so we might see one of those hardware products in the future. Until then, the focus is on Apple’s March 4 event.
