Apple is reportedly working on a new low-cost MacBook aimed at expanding its reach beyond premium laptops. Recent reports suggest that the device has entered advanced stages of development, hinting at a potential announcement soon. Early details have surfaced about the hardware approach, design choices, and possible positioning within Apple’s broader product lineup.
Apple’s low-cost MacBook could bring a new strategy
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple may introduce the new entry-level MacBook at an event expected to take place in March. The device is said to target a price below $1,000, roughly around Rs 90,700, which could make it one of the most affordable Mac notebooks yet.
To maintain lower pricing, the company is reportedly considering an A18 Pro processor, similar to the chip used in the iPhone 16 Pro models, rather than its typical M-series silicon. This approach suggests a focus on everyday productivity, education, and general computing needs rather than high-end professional workloads.
The upcoming MacBook is expected to feature a display slightly smaller than 13 inches, potentially around the 12.9-inch mark. Despite its lower price positioning, the laptop may retain a premium aluminium chassis.
Reports indicate that Apple has developed a revised manufacturing process that allows faster production while reducing costs. The company is also believed to be experimenting with brighter colour options such as light yellow, green, blue, pink, silver, and dark grey, though the final lineup may include fewer choices.
Other Apple products reportedly in the pipeline
Beyond the budget MacBook, Apple’s broader roadmap may include refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models alongside updates to the Mac Studio. New displays and redesigned Macs are also rumoured for future release cycles. Tablet updates, including refreshed entry-level iPads and iPad Air models, are expected in the near term, with an OLED iPad mini reportedly under development.
Additionally, reports suggest Apple could introduce a budget iPhone as part of its upcoming hardware refresh strategy as early as next week.
