ASUS has taken a meaningful step into the budget Chromebook space with the new CX14 and CX15 series, which are lightweight, affordable laptops that don’t feel cheap, either in build or features. Available in two sizes, these 14-inch and 15.6-inch, these machines pack in just enough power for everyday workflows, with options going up to the Intel Core 3 N355. Here’s how ASUS is balancing utility, design, and sustainability without pushing the price ceiling.
Feature rich and thoughtfully designed
First up, the design language. ASUS is clearly leaning into the aesthetic with a lineup of seven colorways, across two sizes, with three distinct finishes – Crystallice, Washi, and Paint. The surface isn’t just for show either; the paint on some models is reinforced with diamond and stone powder, making it significantly more wear-resistant, approximately 2.5 times more durable than conventional coatings. The chassis is built using 30 per cent post-consumer recycled plastic and comes packaged in FSC-certified materials, which nets it EPEAT Climate+ certification.
If you are not a Chromebook fan, then you can check out these laptops:
Functionally, both models hit the sweet spot for users who want a machine that’s easy to live with. We’re talking a starting weight of 1.39kg, 180 degree hinge for collaborative viewing, and FHD displays that go up to 300 nits with optional touch support. Port layout has also been reconsidered. The HDMI port and USB-C now sit higher up on the chassis to give your mouse hand more space. On the 15-inch CX15, there’s also a numeric keypad for number-heavy workflows.
Serviceability and durability haven’t taken a backseat either. The internal layout is designed for tool-less access, battery swaps are screw-free, and the build meets MIL-STD-810H military-grade spec.

Then there’s the Chromebook Plus tier. These models add Google’s AI features like Gemini Advanced, AI-assisted writing tools, real-time video call enhancements, and 2TB of cloud, making them a solid fit for users riding the productivity-AI wave without overcommitting on hardware. While ASUS hasn’t raised the curtains on the pricing of these laptops, from what we can gather, these are going to be pocket friendly devices, aimed at students and those looking for powerful machines for basic day to day tasks, on a budget.
