Best Martin Scorsese films to watch after Killers of the Flower Moon

If there are two things we all need some more of in life, its more hours of sleep and more Martin Scorsese blockbusters in our watchlist. While fans will swear by classics like Goodfellas and Gangs of New York, newer fans can rage on for days about their first watch of The Irishman or Shutter Island. One thing they’ll all agree on is that Scorsese is one of the best directors to have ever worked in Hollywood.

With Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorsese’s latest flick starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone now in theatres, here are some of the director’s other best films (in no particular order) and where you can watch them. Most of the movies mentioned below are available on popular streaming platforms, so you can watch them on your smartphones, laptops or even on a smart TV.

Goodfellas (1990)

Following the tale of gangster Henry Hill through his rise and fall through the world of organised crime in New York, Goodfellas is a classic in the Crime/Drama genre, even after 30 years. Throw in an amazing performance by Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro, this is one Scorsese story you just can’t miss.

You can watch Goodfellas on Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube Movies and Google Play Movies, with the film being priced at about Rs 120 on all these platforms.

The Departed (2006)

Up next, we have the twisted tale of undercover cop Billy Costigan and mob mole Colin Sullivan, played respectively by Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. The Departed dives into the psychology of good and bad and puts the audience’s perception of each to the test as the two main characters try to hunt each other in an unforgiving Boston. Topped by a majestic performance by Jack Nicholson, The Departed also has one of the most iconic music themes in Hollywood history.

The Departed can be streamed on Prime video for Rs 119. Depending on where you’re reading this article from, the movie may also be available on Netflix.

Raging Bull (1980)

Switching up from the crime genre, we have 1980’s Raging Bull, a sports drama that introduces us to middleweight boxer Jake LaMotta, played by Robert DeNiro. The movie follows the violent personality of LaMotta and its black and white screenplay is considered a cinematic masterpiece.

Raging Bull is available on Prime Video for Rs 119.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

A hilarious take on the white-collar crime genre, 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street is one of Scorsese’s more unique movies. Instead of a gangster, we follow the life of stockbroker Jordan Belfort, played again by Leonardo DiCaprio.

The movie follows ups and downs through Belfort’s life as he goes from an ambitious stockbroker to a multi-millionaire via fraudulent trading means. Some of DiCaprio’s best work in his career, The Wolf of Wall Street is a well-paced, solid entertainer till the end, even if you don’t understand the nitty gritties of the stock market.

The Wolf of Wall Street is available for free on MX Player, but is also included with a Prime Video subscription. You can also catch the movie for Rs 75 on YouTube Movies or Google Play Movies.

Shutter Island (2010)

Two Leonardo DiCaprio movies back-to-back in a list of Martin Scorsese films isn’t really a surprise. The premise and climax of 2010’s Shutter Island, however, is sure to take everyone by surprise.

The movie follows two U.S. Marshalls investigating the disappearance of a patient, played by DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo (before he turned into a big, green monster). It’s hard to describe more about this movie without giving away some spoilers, so you’re just going to have to trust us on this one.

Shutter Island is available to watch on Prime Video, and can also be watched on Apple TV for Rs 120, and YouTube Movies for Rs 80.

Other must-watch Martin Scorsese films

Of course, this isn’t even close to the end of the list. When you’re done with the above movies, you may also want to catch hits like Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Irishman (2019), Casino (1995), The Color of Money (1986) and Taxi Driver (1976).
