The company has confirmed that eligible users will be able to enroll for one of the ChatGPT paid plans at no additional cost for a full year. Continue reading to learn what the offer includes and when it begins.
ChatGPT Go plan to be available for free for 1 year
Beginning November 4, users in India who sign up for ChatGPT Go during the promotional period will receive 12 months of free access. Existing subscribers in the country will also be upgraded to the complimentary plan automatically.
ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s most affordable paid tier, typically priced at around Rs 399 per month. It includes advantages such as higher message and generation limits, file uploads for analysis and improved memory for personalised interactions. The plan features access to the latest GPT-5 model, offering significantly better performance compared to the free tier.

India has rapidly evolved into a key market for OpenAI. Earlier this year, the company opened a new office in New Delhi and began hiring locally. CEO Sam Altman has previously stated that India is the second-largest market for ChatGPT, with the potential to soon surpass the United States in user numbers.
Growing competition in the AI field
OpenAI’s timing is crucial, as rival platforms are working aggressively to build presence in the country. For instance, Perplexity teamed up with Airtel to provide complimentary Pro access to millions of subscribers, and Google introduced a free one-year AI Pro subscription for students.
India’s vast smartphone base and rapidly expanding digital infrastructure present a major opportunity for AI services. By removing cost barriers for a full year, OpenAI aims to accelerate product adoption among students, professionals and developers while strengthening its role in the local ecosystem.
