Digital television refers to the various digital broadcasting standards that deliver live TV to your home. Much like radio, early TV signals were broadcast as analogue signals and were of lower quality and prone to interference. Digital broadcasting fixes all these issues.
What is Digital TV?
Modern broadcasting standards use digital signals, i.e. data encoded in binary, to transmit information. This technique is more robust and secure.
More data can be transmitted in this fashion, allowing for surround sound and 4K transmission. Analogue TVs transmitted SD quality signals that would lose quality easily owing to factors like weather.
