It is honestly a little weird to see a Dyson air purifier without that giant, empty circle sitting on top. We have all gotten so used to that specific look over the last decade.
But the company is moving in a different direction with the Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact, which launched today. Instead of the classic loop we all know, this uses something they are calling a HushJet Entrainment Nozzle to blast clean air around your flat.
A fresh design for the bedroom
Basically, the nozzle is star-shaped and acts a bit like the concentrator attachment you would find on a hairdryer. It speeds up the air as it exits the machine. The idea here is that by entraining — which is just a fancy way of saying dragging along — the surrounding air, a stronger projection is created without all the noisy turbulence you usually get from fans.
That turbulence is usually what makes purifiers sound like a jet engine taking off in the corner of your bedroom. Speaking of noise, the machine is rated at just 24 decibels when it is running in Sleep Mode. That is actually quieter than a library, which is pretty wild if you are the type of person who wakes up at the slightest sound.
But the biggest deal here might actually be the maintenance side of things. A new 360-degree electrostatic filter is being used inside the chassis. Electrostatic just means it uses a static electrical charge to trap dust and gross stuff, kind of like how a balloon sticks to your hair after you rub it.
Because of this tech, the filter is claimed to last up to five years. Considering most filters have to be swapped out every six to twelve months, that is a huge deal for your wallet.
Despite being small enough to fit on a bedside table, a room up to 1076 sq ft can be covered by it. You can control the whole thing through the MyDyson app or just shout at Alexa to turn it on for you.
