Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 foldable phones in the third quarter of 2026. However, the rumour mill is already buzzing with information about the next-generation foldables. A report by the South Korean publication, NewDaily, has shared details about the chipset that will power the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Qualcomm and Samsung to team up again
Samsung had been manufacturing Qualcomm chipsets until it built the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in 2021. After that, the US-based chipmaker switched to Taiwan-based TSMC for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. As per the new report, Qualcomm will team up with Samsung once again for a 2nm chipset.
This 2nm chip will be manufactured using Samsung’s 2nm GAA (Gate-All-Around) process. GAA is an advanced chip-making technology that enhances performance and power efficiency in processors.
The new 2nm Snapdragon chip, which will be manufactured by Samsung, is expected to power the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The official name of the chipset is not known yet. In the coming months, Qualcomm will test the chip’s power efficiency, thermal performance, reliability, and yield before starting trial production.
In September, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, designed for flagship phones such as the Xiaomi 17 series, Realme GT 8 Pro, OnePlus 15, and iQOO 15. This powerful chipset is built on TSMC’s 3nm node.

There is also an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, expected to power the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It is likely to be dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. On the other hand, other models in the S26 series could feature Samsung’s Exynos 2600, which is also a 2nm chipset. The Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch in January 2026.
