Samsung’s long-rumoured mixed-reality headset has surfaced in detail ahead of launch, thanks to a new report from AndroidHeadlines. Internally codenamed Project Moohan, the device represents Samsung’s first major step into the extended-reality space, signalling its serious push to rival players like Apple and Meta. We saw the headset at MWC 2025, and now official-looking renders and leaked specs give us a clearer glimpse at what we can expect from Samsung’s upcoming XR bet.
Samsung XR headset design and hardware details revealed
Official-looking renders show a design clearly inspired by Apple’s Vision Pro, complete with a glass front panel, multiple sensors, and an external battery pack. The Galaxy XR headset uses two internal lenses with a wraparound “Light Shield” for a snug fit, while four front sensors handle hand tracking and two additional cameras near the nose track the lower field of view. A proximity sensor near the forehead detects physical surroundings such as walls and ceilings.

Samsung has equipped the headset with dual 4K micro-LED displays offering 4,032 ppi, totalling nearly 29 million pixels. Audio comes from speakers built into the side straps, and several microphones promise improved voice isolation.
A touchpad on the right strap allows quick navigation. Long-pressing recentres content, while a double-tap toggles between VR and passthrough modes. Physical buttons on top include a “Top” button for the main UI and a volume rocker on the left. Air vents run along the bottom for cooling.

The user interface resembles that of Galaxy smartphones and supports the Google Play Store. Samsung will also offer dedicated controllers with six-degree-of-freedom tracking, analogue sticks, and haptic feedback for 3D environments. Battery life is rated at up to 2.5 hours of video playback or 2 hours of general use, powered via the external battery pack.
