Sharper text, better edits, 4K output

Google’s Nano Banana 2 lands with faster edits and sharper 4K AI visuals

Google just dropped a sequel to one of its most viral AI tools. Nano Banana 2, officially called Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, is now rolling out across Google’s ecosystem, promising faster image generation, cleaner edits and far better handling of text.

If the original Nano Banana won attention for its surprisingly good image edits, and Nano Banana Pro catered to the pixel-perfect crowd, this new version aims to sit neatly in the middle. According to Google, it blends speed with smarter, more reliable output and is available “across Google” from day one.

Nano Banana 2: Faster image generation, fewer do-overs

At its core, Nano Banana 2 is built for iteration. Google says the model is optimised for quicker image generation and editing, which should make rapid tweaks less of a waiting game. That matters if you are designing social posts, marketing assets or quick mock-ups and do not want to babysit a progress bar.

What sets this version apart is how it taps into Gemini’s broader knowledge and real-time web information. In practice, that means it should generate more accurate visuals of specific people, places or concepts, and handle data-based graphics like infographics and simple diagrams with more confidence.

Text inside images has also been upgraded. AI image tools have historically struggled with legible typography, but Google claims Nano Banana 2 produces clearer, more readable text suitable for greeting cards, ads and social media posts.

It can also translate and localise text directly within images, which could be useful for brands working across markets.

Nano Banana 2: More control, higher resolution

Creative control has been dialled up as well. Google says Nano Banana 2 can maintain consistent appearances for up to five characters and track details for as many as 14 objects in a single workflow. In other words, fewer mysteriously changing hairstyles and vanishing props mid-edit.

The model is also said to follow detailed prompts more closely, reducing the gap between what you type and what you get. It supports multiple aspect ratios and resolutions, from 512 pixels up to full 4K, making it viable for everything from quick thumbnails to higher-quality display assets.

Nano Banana 2: Where you can try it

Nano Banana 2 is not confined to a single app. It is rolling out in the Gemini app, Google Search’s AI Mode and Lens, AI Studio and the Gemini API, Vertex AI on Google Cloud, Flow and even inside Google Ads.

In short, if you are already dabbling in Google’s AI tools, you will likely find Nano Banana 2 waiting for you. Have you used it already? Drop a comment with your thoughts.
