Auracast support finally arrives for the Pixel family

Pixel Phones will now let you stream to 2 headphones at the same time

Google is rolling out expanded Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast support for its smartphones, meaning that Pixel users can stream audio to multiple headphones simultaneously. The feature essentially ends the age-old dilemma of having to share one of your earbuds with a friend.

All you need are two or more Bluetooth LE-supporting cans

Not all Google Pixels will be getting it though, presumably due to the lack of supporting hardware. You’ll need a Pixel 8 or up to get the update and audio devices that are LE Audio-compatible.

The update turns your phone into a personal audio hotspot. For larger groups you can create a private broadcast and invite others to join your stream by scanning a QR code or using Fast Pair. It is a neat way to host a mini silent disco or ensure everyone in your group can listen in on the same audio feed.

It’s worth mentioning that this feature has been already present on devices from the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi for a while now. The Pixels are playing catch up here.

Again, the big catch here is that the magic only works if the headphones are also compatible with LE Audio. You should generally be fine if your headphones/earbuds dropped after 2022. Just check your device’s manual or box to see if it’s got a logo that reads “LE” stamped anywhere.

On Google’s end of things, the company has confirmed it is expanding support to include several popular Sony models like the LinkBuds S, WF-1000XM5, and WH-1000XM6. This adds to a growing list of compatible devices that already includes select hearing aids and other earbuds.
