Google Search AI Mode will soon help you with your restaurant reservations

Google is supercharging its AI Mode in Search with new ‘agentic’ powers that can handle your restaurant reservations. At the same time, the company is expanding the core AI experience to 180 countries, including India. Let’s dive in.

AI Mode goes global, dinner reservations set to get easier

When the agentic powers roll out widely, you’ll be able to search for the perfect restaurant to book a reservation in by using natural language commands. For instance, ‘a table for four, Friday night, near Bandra, serving Mughlai food’ will have the AI doing the heavy lifting for you by scanning multiple booking platforms.

It then presents you with a curated list of restaurants with actual availability. A direct link will also be provided to lock in your booking on the partner’s site.

Currently, the feature available only for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US, though, through a Labs experiment. It works by combining live web-browsing tech from its Project Mariner with direct partner integrations and data from the Knowledge Graph and Google Maps.

The company plans to expand these agentic skills to local service appointments and event tickets down the line.

The bigger news for many of us is the massive global expansion. Folks in India can now finally get their hands on the more powerful AI Mode in Search. While the booking agent is not here just yet, this rollout means users can now ask those long, complex questions that standard search struggles with.

It’s a huge step up for tackling complicated tasks like planning a multi-city trip or understanding intricate topics right from the search bar.

Google is also adding a dash of personalisation for its US users. The AI can learn your preferences for things like plant-based meals or outdoor seating and tailor its recommendations accordingly. You can now also share your AI conversations with friends using a simple link, making group planning for that birthday bash much less of a headache.

Of course, you always remain in control of your data and can adjust these settings anytime.
