Gone are the days when you had to go through each link to find exactly what you wanted on Google. No, we aren’t talking about AI Overviews here, which was largely an experimental feature.
At the Google I/O 2025 keynote, the company introduced AI Mode in Search, which is a full-fledged conversational search tool akin to ChatGPT’s web search. And, as you read this article, it’s being rolled out to users.

Google says that AI Mode offers an end-to-end AI Search experience, and while it’s true, it appears to quietly do away with the traditional search method. Here’s everything you need to know.
Google Search is now conversational with AI Mode
Google has officially introduced the AI Mode in Search, and it promises to take your search experience to the next level. The AI Mode will be the first tab on the Search top bar, which also includes All, Images, Videos, and News, among others.
Having said that, you’ll no longer have to go through all the search results to get a suitable answer to your query. The AI Mode will offer the exact answer and let you ask further questions to better optimise the search queries.
AI Mode combines text, videos, maps, and images – all into one to offer an accurate response. There’s also the Deep Search feature in AI Mode, which lets you instantly dive deeper into the topic of your choice.
That’s not it. The AI Mode has more to offer. With Project Mariner, Google is bringing agentic capabilities to Search. That means you can assign a task in Google Search, and it will be done automatically. For instance, if you want to find two affordable tickets to a show, you no longer need to go through search results or different links.
The agentic capabilities in Search will look for tickets, compare prices, and put all the cheapest options together. So, all you do is book the tickets with one click, as demoed by Google.
Further, AI Mode can analyse complex datasets and create graphics and charts for you. If given access to other Google apps, the AI Mode can also offer personal context for more tailored results.
Lastly, the shopping experience has also been improved with the AI Mode. You can easily compare prices and see how an apparel looks on you with a few clicks – all within the new AI Mode.
AI Mode in Google Search is rolling out in the US, but is expected to reach a broader market soon.
Google’s AI Mode appears to be a game-changer for general users. SEO experts, however, may not be as enthusiastic. What are your thoughts about the new AI Mode in Search? Do let us know in the comments below.
