A new wave of Half-Life buzz has taken over the community after a recent report highlighted repeated mentions of something called ‘Project Fremont’.
These references were spotted in old developer notes, archived fan research, and a few hardware listings, and fans assume this project to be related to the upcoming Half-Life 3. However, some have suggest otherwise. They hint that this is a new console-like device in the works.
If you were a fan of Half-Life or care about Valve’s next gaming device (after Steam Deck), read on.
What is Project Fremont and why fans are interested?
The name ‘Project Fremont’ initially appeared in scattered forums, unused directory labels, and internal build mentions from older archives. This made fans speculate that it’s some sort of game from the Half-Life franchise. But, why? You may ask.
That’s because a former Half-Life writer used the name Fremont in one of his fan stories, and hence, fans are speculating that Project Fremont is Half-Life 3.
However, a Geekbench report emerged online with the same name, and since then, Fremont is said to be a gaming device instead of a game. Some rumours suggest that Valve is still working on Half-Life 3, and that could be playable on this upcoming console-like device, which packs AMD’s Radeon GPU and Zen 3 APU.

Even with all this chatter, nothing confirms that Project Fremont is tied to Half-Life 3. It’s all speculation at this point. The references, benchmark claims and archived notes are unverified, as of yet, so do take the information with a pinch of salt.
As fans, we’ll just have to wait longer to learn more about this Project Fremont. What do you think it is? A new Half-Life game or a gaming device? Let us know in the comments below.
