Barcelona has seen its fair share of foldables, concept cars, and earnest AI demos this week, but Honor managed to steal a moment of the spotlight with something far more animated. At MWC 2026, the company unveiled its first humanoid robot, and then, had it perform a backflip.
Yes, an actual backflip. Followed by a moonwalk, a short dance routine and a handshake with one of Honor’s executives on stage. It was part product reveal, part theatre, to show off that the smartphone brand is thinking beyond slabs of glass.
Honor did not dive deep into technical specifications, but from the demo alone, we can tell that is a broader push into AI-powered robotics, building on the company’s experience with smartphones and connected devices.
From phones to full-sized companions
Honor describes its humanoid robot as a blend of “personal intelligence” and edge AI. In practical terms, that means processing data locally, understanding user behaviour and preferences, and keeping privacy safeguards in place.
The company is leaning heavily on what it has learned from years of shipping consumer electronics to inform how this robot will interact with people.

Unlike industrial robotics firms that often begin in factories, Honor is framing this as a consumer-grade machine from day one. The pitch is familiarity. If the company already understands how you use your phone, it suggests, it can translate that insight into a more intuitive robotic assistant.
Three early use cases
For now, Honor says the humanoid robot will focus on three main scenarios: shopping assistance, workplace inspections and supportive companionship.
Shopping assistance could mean guiding customers in retail environments or helping with product selection. Workplace inspections point to light commercial use, possibly in offices or facilities management. Supportive companionship is more open-ended, but it probably signals ambitions beyond simple task automation.
What the company did not reveal is just as important. There was no pricing, no timeline for commercial availability and no detailed breakdown of hardware capabilities. The backflip was impressive, but it is the roadmap that will determine whether this becomes a serious product or a headline-grabbing experiment.
