How to disable bloatware on Xiaomi’s HyperOS

Xiaomi introduced HyperOS in late 2023 and has since then been the default Android-based skin for flagship and certain mid-range devices. From unwanted wallpaper carousels to system pop-ups, there are plenty of distracting elements that can make or break your smartphone experience. But if you think you’ve signed up for life, let us tell you of some ways you can actually opt out of them. Read on:

If you’re anything like us, you probably have your home and lock screen wallpapers planned for the next six months. So, naturally, you would like to get rid of the pesky wallpaper carousel that displays an array of random, unwanted photos. Glance For Mi or Wallpaper Carousel app usually displays content based on your usage and has nothing to do with your theme, or worse, aesthetics! Here’s how to switch it off:

Step 1: Open Settings on your Xiaomi smartphone

Step 2: Find Apps and tap on Manage Apps

Step 3: Tap on the three-dot menu on the far right corner and then select Show All Apps

Step 4: Within this, search for Wallpaper Carousel and select Uninstall; post this, tap OK

Disable system app ads

Many of Xiaomi’s system apps are plagued with ads that can be both disruptive and distracting. Thankfully, there are ways to do away with them with only a few simple steps. That said, you may have to open each of these apps to individually turn off ads across their interfaces. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open a system app on your HyperOS-based device

Step 2: Navigate to Settings (this is usually situated in the top right corner, three-dot menu)

Step 3: Within this, turn off Recommendations

The system apps on your phone usually include Music, Video, File Manager, ShareMe, Themes, Browser, Downloads, Security, Game Turbo, WhatsApp Cleaner, AppLock, as well as Recents.
