How to set up dual monitors with a laptop

Sometimes, a single monitor may not be adequate for one’s use case. Using dual monitors with laptop is always better than one. Whether you are a working professional or an avid gamer, you may feel the need for two monitors to level up productivity and creativity. The good news is that it is easy and quick to set up two monitors with a laptop. To learn how you can connect three systems together, keep reading.

Steps on how to connect a laptop to two monitors

The first thing you should check is that your laptop should be capable of connecting and adding two external monitors. Ensure that the laptop’s graphics card supports multiple monitors. It should show the Multi Monitor option as Yes. You must also check the available ports on your laptop and compatible ports on your monitors as well. Generally, laptops have a Display Port, Digital Video Interface (DVI), Video Graphics Array (VGA), and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI).

Once you have your monitors on your desk and the laptop ready, you can start connecting the three systems. Connect the first external monitor to your laptop by plugging the cable into the correct port. Similarly, connect the second external monitor. Then, on your laptop, right-click and select Display settings. In the display mode, you will see three displays as 1, 2, and 3. Mostly, the display 1 is your laptop, and 2 and 3 are the other two external monitors.

Click on display 2, and under Multiple Displays, select the option Extend desktop to this display and click Apply. Similarly, click on display 3 and choose the same given options. Once this is done, click OK to complete the settings. Now, you will be able to use all three systems at the same time. The best part is that you can click and drag any display (1,2, or 3) to rearrange as per your convenience. Additionally, you can also make changes to display resolution, size of items, and orientation as per your preferences.

This setup is quite easy, and you should be able to do this yourself by following the steps above. It is also possible to add more than two monitors to your system by following the same steps above. Adding more monitors to your setup will make your work and gaming easier.
