Insta360 launches X4 Air, a more affordable 8K 360 action cam

Insta360 has just launched the X4 Air, a new 360-degree action camera that brings 8K video capture to a lower price point. It follows the X5 which launched earlier this year.

The X4 Air isn’t a replacement for that flagship. Instead, it’s a lighter and thinner update to the X4. It also slices the price to become one of the more affordable 8K 360 camera options you can buy right now.

'Air' means lighter, smaller, and cheaper

Insta360 has packed the cam with dual 1/1.8-inch sensors inside, which is actually a nice upgrade over the old X4’s 1/2-inch sensors. This setup lets the camera record massive 8K 360-degree video at 30fps.

You can also dial it down to 6K at 50fps or 4K at 50fps if you need smoother motion. For traditional flat video, a single-lens mode gives you 4K at 60fps.

The “Air” name comes from the fact that this camera weighs only 165 grams, a noticeable drop from the X4’s 203 grams. The battery is a smaller 2010mAh unit, though it still gets you a respectable 88 minutes of 8K recording time.

Despite the reduction in weight, it’s still a proper action cam, waterproof down to 15 metres on its own. It also has Insta360’s magic-like FlowState stabilisation and 360-degree horizon lock to keep shots rock solid.

The camera even features wind noise reduction. And there are over 50 mounts and accessories, including magnetic ones.

A huge part of the appeal is the software. Insta360’s companion app boasts glowing reviews by users and it lets you reframe your 360 videos easily. Features like “Me Mode” and gesture controls for the selfie stick are also included.

The Insta360 X4 Air is available now in Graphite Black and Arctic White, starting at Rs 45,990.
