Apple iPhone 16 leak hints at higher RAM capacity, faster 5G and better cameras

It’s been just five months since Apple took the wraps off the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphones. However, rumours are already rife regarding the company’s next line-up of smartphones – likely to be called the iPhone 16 series.

Now, the folks at 9to5 Mac have spotted a new investor note by analyst Jeff Pu, which includes details on what to expect with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro line-up of smartphones.

iPhone 16 expected features, specifications

According to Pu, the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the A18 processor. It will be the first time that base model iPhones will use a processor built on a 3-nanometre fabrication. In addition to this, they can also be expected to feature 8GB of RAM, an upgrade from the 6GB RAM currently found in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus devices.

In addition to this, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are also likely to use the same Qualcomm X70 modem, which is currently used in the entire iPhone 15 lineup. The modem, though not an upgrade, is a whole lot faster than the Qualcomm X65 modem found in the iPhone 14 series.

In addition to this, the devices are also expected to get support for Wi-Fi 6E, which is currently limited only to the Pro variants of the iPhone 15. Wi-Fi 6E in essence, guarantees faster speeds and lower latency, as well as generally more stable connections.

iPhone 16 Pro lineup expectations

The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to be powered by the A18 Pro chip. Coming to the modem inside, the devices are expected to feature the Qualcomm X75 modem, as per the report.

Should this happen to be the case, it would appear Apple is attempting to create a bigger bifurcation between the base iPhone 16 and the flagship iPhone 16 Pro lineups based on network speeds. The fact that the Pro models are also expected to feature support for Wi-Fi 7, launched recently, also supports the same.

Now, another interesting bit in the investor note by Pu happens to be regarding the cameras, specifically on the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. The iPhone 16 Pro this year, will receive an upgraded ultra-wide-angle camera, with an increase in resolution from 12MP to 48MP, Pu says. This is corroborated by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. If the same happens to be true, it could mean an increase in the spatial video recording capacity on the iPhone 16 Pro lineup as well.

Now, just how accurate the details mentioned in the investor note are, only time will tell. What we do know is, we can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for us with the iPhone 16 series either way!
