It’s September and the new Apple iPhones have just been launched. The new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus pack some changes when you put them next to the iPhone 14 series, and a few more when you put them next to the even older iPhone 13 series.

But if you’re someone planning to buy one of the older iPhones, or even looking to upgrade from the iPhone 13 and 14, what are the top changes you should be considering? Here’s a head-on comparison between the iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 to help you out.

For the purpose of simplicity, we’ll be focussing on the core edition, as specifications of the iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 are near identical to their Plus/mini counterparts barring the size and battery.

Design

Starting off with the design, the iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 all have a 6.1-inch OLED display panel. However, while the iPhone 13 and 14 have a notch, the iPhone 15 now gets the Dynamic Island upgrade. Most other elements including the design and dual cameras on the back of the phone are largely unchanged.

Additionally, Dynamic Island also allows the iPhone 15 the look and feel of the newer iPhones. With the brand now eliminating the notch entirely, Dynamic Island iPhones will be more future-proof going forward.

Display

The iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 all feature a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display panel. This allows for crisper colours and sharper blacks. However, while the panel on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 are pretty much the same, the iPhone 15 panel comes with improved brightness which can now go up to 2,000 nits.

Performance

Perhaps the biggest difference separating the three phones is the chipset. While the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 both feature the Apple A15 Bionic chip, the new iPhone 15 comes with the A16 Bionic. You may not see a difference in day-to-day usage, but the A16 Bionic is faster in heavier tasks and gaming, and also more efficient with battery discharge. For an estimated comparison, the A16 chip on the iPhone 15 is as powerful as the Pro version of the iPhone 14.

Cameras

Coming to the cameras, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 are very close, both featuring 12MP main and ultrawide cameras. However, the iPhone 15 comes with a 48MP main camera that allows for more capabilities like 24MP photos, loss-less 2X zooming in, and support for higher-resolution 48MP photos.

Connectivity

Elements like 5G connectivity and MagSafe wireless charging are available on the iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15. But, only the iPhone 15 comes with the new USB Type-C port. This lets you charge the phone with any Type-C cable around and open up possibilities like Type-C DisplayPort connectivity for connecting external monitors.

Colours

While there are no better colours, choosing the perfect shade for your next device is very subjective. Hence it is important to know the colour options you will find on each of the three phones we’re comparing today.

The new iPhone 15, on the other hand, will be available in Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green and Black. It is worth noting that the new pastel colours on the new iPhone 15 series are pretty muted and except the black variant.

Other features

The iPhone 15 series comes with a lot of additions including crash detection and roadside assistance, the former also being available on the iPhone 14. However, none of these region-specific features are available in India right now.
