iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max leak: From on-board AI to bigger batteries; here’s everything to expect

It’s been about five months since the new iPhone 15 series of smartphones dropped. However, social media and online tech forums are already rife with rumours regarding the successors to the iPhone 15 series- namely, the iPhone 16 series.

Now, a new leak suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could receive several significant upgrades over their successors, including on-board AI capabilities, OLED panels, and what may be the best-ever battery life ever seen in an iPhone. Read on to find out more.

iPhone 16 Pro, Pro Max: Expected features and specifications

A Korean leaker by the name of yeux1122 on Naver, a Korean search engine not unlike Google, posted several purported specs and key features for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max on the platform over the weekend.

The leaker suggests that the Pro models will be powered by the A18 Pro chip, and get as much as 8GB RAM and up to a whopping 2TB of storage.

On the display front, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED panels respectively. Previous leaks on the device also suggest similar specs for the screen. Differences between the devices and their predecessors, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, in terms of form factor, should be little to none.

Yeux1122 also goes on to suggest that the devices will feature batteries about five per cent bigger than their predecessors, which means they could also have the longest-ever battery life seen in an iPhone – a distinction currently held by the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The latter two devices have a claimed battery life of as much as 23 hours and 29 hours of video playback, and 75 hours and 95 hours of audio playback on a single charge.

Coming to optics, according to the leak, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will get a new 48MP ultra-wide angle camera, and will also feature a new dedicated capture button. The leaker also suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro will get a 5x telephoto lens, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get a “Super Periscope camera.” What it means, however, remains unclear.

Now, one of the biggest upgrades that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to come with, something Apple seemed to be shying away from all this time, happens to be on-board generative AI capabilities. These are expected to be integrated into the devices with iOS 18, whenever it is rolled out. However, Apple is expected to not just introduce generative AI capabilities on the devices, but also AI-enabled content creation tools as well as an upgraded version of Siri.

iPhone 16 Pro, Pro Max: Tentative launch dates and pricing

While little is known of the pricing of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the devices are expected to be launched sometime in September this year, as has been the case with most previous iPhone launches. It is important to remember though, that all of the above rumours are all that they are- rumours. They must therefore be taken with a pinch of salt.

Either way though, we can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for us with the next generation of its iPhones.
