Apple’s iPhone 17 keynote this year mostly focused on the thermals and the A19 chipset. However, one underrated feature that went under the radar is faster charging.
Yes, Apple quietly bumped up the charging speeds on the iPhone 17 lineup, and while it’s not as fast as OnePlus or Samsung, it’s quite the surprise, and we are all in for it. Here’s everything you need to know.
Here’s how fast the new iPhone 17 charges
The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max can now be charged up to 50 per cent in around 20 minutes. For comparison, the iPhone 16 can charge up to 50 per cent in 30 minutes. That’s 10 minutes quicker.
This fast charging is achieved via the new Dynamic USB-C power adapter. While the power adapter supports a maximum charging speed of 60W, the new iPhones charge at a 40W speed. Having said that, expect a full charge in around an hour, at least on the base iPhone model.
Wireless charging speed has also been bumped up to 30W with a MagSafe charger. Apple states that with a 30W power adapter, the iPhone 17 can charge up to 50 per cent in 30 minutes.

These are really impressive speeds. However, these speeds are still not as fast as the competition. For comparison, the Galaxy S25 Ultra supports 45W wired fast charging and the OnePlus 13 supports 100W fast charging speeds.
With faster charging, Apple has also improved the battery life on all iPhones, making them last longer. For instance, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is advertised to offer up to 39 hours of video playback.
