The next Pro iPhone may have a redesigned camera module

The iPhone 17 lineup is poised to make its grand entrance this September, because if there’s one thing Apple doesn’t mess with, it’s tradition. If rumours are to be believed, this year’s series could include four models – iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new wild card – the iPhone 17 Air, Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet.

In a move that seems to be signalling the end of the Plus era, Apple appears ready to usher in its slim-phone revolution. And while the name “Air” might sound familiar, this time, it’s not about laptops or tablets, it’s about slipping a Pro-level phone into a sleeker silhouette. But that’s not the only thing circulating in the rumour mills.

iPhone 17 Pro camera design leaked

Just when you thought Apple had settled into its signature square camera island, it’s throwing a curveball. Prominent Chinese tipster Majin Bu has posted what appear to be leaked images of the iPhone 17 Pro in a matte black finish, and the rear camera design is… different. Very different.

Gone is the chunky square module of past models. In its place? A visored camera bar that spans the width of the device, looking part-Google Pixel, part-futuristic Apple. It’s broader, flatter, and a lot more industrial chic. Think cyberpunk minimalism but make it Apple.

The new module fuses glass and metal with a cleaner, more unified aesthetic. The triple-lens setup remains familiar in placement, but the camera housing itself is now framed within this wide visor. The LiDAR sensor and LED flash have moved to the far right, balancing the layout.

It’s a striking departure from the square bump that has defined iPhones since the iPhone 11 Pro, one that suggests Apple is rethinking the look and feel of its most powerful phone.

A Pro camera setup to match

While Apple’s lips are sealed (as usual), the leaks are speaking volumes. Word is, the iPhone 17 Pro might debut a 48MP telephoto lens, bringing crisper zoom shots and potentially massive improvements in low-light performance. Add to that 8K video recording and a rumoured mechanical aperture on the wide-angle lens, and you’re looking at Apple pushing hard into DSLR territory.

The front camera’s also reportedly getting some love. A 24MP sensor could be in the cards, which would be a major leap from the current 12MP shooter.

All in all, the iPhone 17 Pro is shaping up to be the ultimate content creator’s pocket tool, if the leaks hold true. Of course, better materials, sharper cameras, and the inevitable performance upgrades don’t come cheap.

If the early whispers are right, the iPhone 17 Pro may carry a price tag around Rs 1,39,900 in India. Not exactly spare change, but then again, Apple’s Pro line has always been a premium pursuit. The good news? With a September launch on the horizon, we won’t have to wait long to see what Apple actually unveils.
