iPhone 18 Pro leaked screen protector hints at a smaller Dynamic Island

An unobtrusive experience without a larger screen-estate

iPhone 18 Pro leaked screen protector hints at a smaller Dynamic Island

Apple introduced Dynamic Island in 2022 on the iPhone 14 Pro models. It is a pill-shaped cutout that houses the front camera and Face ID sensors. Not long ago, it was reported that the entire iPhone 18 series and the iPhone Air 2 will come with a smaller dynamic island. Now, an alleged screen protector of the next-generation iPhones corroborates the previous leak.

iPhone may come with smaller Dynamic Island

The image of the screen protector for this year’s iPhones has been shared by a Weibo user. Instead of the single punch hole cutout, there is a small pill-shaped island and a hole punch cutout. The former houses Face ID sensors for a TrueDepth camera, while the latter accommodates a selfie snapper.

The Weibo post suggests that the new Dynamic Island will reportedly measure 13.49mm. This is a significant reduction compared to the 20.76mm cutout on the current iPhone models. The redesigned, smaller cut-out will also be found on the non-pro and air models. This is said to be possible as Apple could move some of the Face ID components, such as flood illuminator under the display panel.

The bezels surrounding the screen on the iPhone 18 series will stay exactly the same as the iPhone 17 lineup. So, that doesn’t translate to a larger screen-estate with the smaller Dynamic Island, but instead an unobtrusive experience with the reduced size of the cutout.

The iPhone 18 series is expected to debut this September. Past leaks suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro may come in a Product Red colour option. It is rumoured to be powered by an A20 Pro chipset.
