Kojima has a new horror game with a really creepy teaser

Hideo Kojima has just dropped a new teaser for OD: Knock, and it’s eerie, to say the least. Premiered during Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary livestream, the three-minute trailer shows a character (played by Sophia Lillis) lighting candles in a room. This happens while an ominous knocking grows louder and louder. By the end, she’s in tears and screaming as a shadowy figure grabs her face.

Kojima Productions’ renowned character designs are back

The teaser starts with a red card being pushed through a door, followed by a flood of redacted text. Phrases like “Ten years since the [redacted] horror” and “the cursed [redacted] have once again [redacted] into the forbidden” are vague enough to intrigue.

Kojima later confirmed that OD isn’t just another horror game. He called it a “completely new gaming experience,” blending film-like storytelling with interactive gameplay in a way that’s supposed to “go over the system of films and games.”

The game is developed in Unreal Engine 5 and published by Xbox Game Studios, and from what we can see in the trailer, the visuals are near photorealistic – especially Lillis’ in-game character model. This doesn’t come as a surprise considering any characters coming straight out of Kojima Productions have featured some of the most detailed graphics in the industry.

The OD: Knock teaser has immediately sent fans spiralling into comparisons with PT, Kojima’s cancelled Silent Hills demo from 2014.

Beyond this, Kojima also revealed that OD will feature multiple creative partners, including filmmaker Jordan Peele. The subtitle “Knock” reportedly reflects Kojima’s personal flavour of horror.

As of yet, there’s no release date for the title but that may chance soon with the trailer now out.
