LG 2024 QNED TVs revealed, including a new 8K mini-LED TV

One of the biggest players in the TV segment, LG has taken the wraps off its new range of QNED Smart TVs for 2024. The new range includes affordable 4K LED TVs as well as a new 8K model sporting a mini-LED backlight. While the new TVs are not quite OLED just yet, they just might be the closest you can get to those flagship-grade contrast levels. Here’s everything you need to know about the new TVs.

LG QNED99T 8K TV

Leading the new lineup is the LG 8K QNED TV. The appliance comes with 8K resolution, coupled with Quantum-dot LED backlights, now made exclusively out of mini-LEDs. For the uninitiated, mini-LED backlights feature more, smaller LEDs making up the TV’s backlight, offering a more granular control over contrast as more individual backlight parts are able to regulate their brightness.

This brings the high-res TV near-OLED levels of contrast, but that’s not all. The TV also comes with 120Hz refresh rate, making it a great investment for gamers to pair up with their gaming desktops or consoles like the Sony PlayStation 5. While this isn’t LG’s first 8K TV, it is the first update since the 2021 model. The TV will be available in 65-inch, 75-inch and 86-inch sizes.

LG QNED85T 4K TV

The QNED99T may offer the highest resolution in the series with an 8K panel, but if it is a wall of pixels that you want your next TV to be, what you need is the LG QNED85T. The new TV comes in multiple sizes from 50-inches all the way up to a monster 98-inch size, all of which will feature 4K resolutions.

While this series will miss out on mini-LED backlighting for more standard LED backlights, you still get 120Hz refresh rate and the same Alpha 8 processor which powers the LG QNED99T. The new super slim design also makes its way to these models.

The QNED series TVs promise better sound quality thanks to the new AI Sound Pro feature which enables the TVs to create a virtual 9.1.2 surround sound effect straight from the TV’s own speakers. However, if you happen to have an LG soundbar, you can also make use of the WOW Orchestra feature to club the TV’s speakers together with the soundbar for a richer experience.

Talking software, both the LG QNED85T and LG QNED99T will feature the latest version of webOS, which will allow the TVs to maintain individual user profiles and recommend content with personalised recommendations. There are also new organisation options for those who like to set their home screens up as per their needs.

Note that you still won’t be able to immediately get the new LG TVs up and running in your living room. While the TVs have been announced, LG still needs to make these models available in regions like India, which is also when we will know more about pricing details. Until then, keep an eye out on more TV launches, and there might be quite a few with CES 2024 taking place next week.
