Xiaomi Watch 2, Watch S3 and Smart Band 8 Pro are the company’s latest wearables

Say hello to the latest entrants in the wearables segment

Xiaomi Watch 2, Watch S3 and Smart Band 8 Pro are the company’s latest wearables

All eyes have been on Xiaomi lately, who recently unveiled the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in China, and also announced the global launch of the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Pro.

However, the company also announced as many as three new wearables at the MWC 2024 event – the Xiaomi Watch 2, the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro and Xiaomi Watch S3. Here’s all you need to know about them.

Xiaomi Watch 2 features and key specifications

The Xiaomi Watch 2 is powered by the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset for smartwatches and runs on Wear OS. It gets 2GB of RAM and 32GB storage, ensuring more than enough space for the applications you may use on the watch, as well as your contacts.

The smartwatch gets a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, with a resolution of 44×466 pixels, and a peak brightness of 600 nits. It is housed in an aluminum alloy frame, and weighs about 37g. On offer is also a 5ATM water resistance rating and a battery life of up to 65 hours at a stretch.

Smart features on the smartwatch include a heart and blood oxygen level sensor, as well as over 160 sports modes. Moreover, it also gets impact detection and SOS calling functionalities, a feature generally seen on much more premium smartwatches. In case of any emergencies, it can text your contacts along with your location, and pressing the lower button thrice in quick succession also triggers a call to them.

Along with this, the watch also gets sleep tracking capabilities and can analyse your sleep if you wear the watch for seven consecutive nights. What’s more, it also provides users with personalised insights and also provides users with a “sleep animal” to visualise their sleeping patterns.

What’s cool is the watch, in addition to the usual sports modes, also gets skiing and snowboarding modes, and can chart out the route you’ve just traveled to a point. This is possible due to the dial-band L1+L5 GNSS support, which allows for GPS, Galileo, Glonass and Beidou.

Xiaomi Watch S3 features and key specifications

The more premium Xiaomi Watch S3 also gets a 1.43-inch AMOLED display. However, it comes with interchangeable bezels and straps. What’s more, you can also twist the bezel and snap it into place, to set a watch face exclusive to that particular bezel on the home screen.

The Xiaomi Watch S3 comes running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS and is housed in a lightweight aluminium alloy frame. Similar to the Watch 2, it gets over 160 sports modes, including new winter sports modes. There’s also the L1+L5 dual-band GNSS support for navigation.

Coming to the health features on the Watch S3, it gets a 12-channel heart rate monitoring module, as well as the usual SpO2 monitoring, as well as stress and sleep tracking capabilities, same as the Xiaomi Watch 2. There are also similar impact detection capabilities, the same as its less premium sibling.

The Xiaomi Watch S3 however, also gets three USPs which the Watch 2 misses out on.

One is the fact that in addition to Bluetooth calling, it also gets 4G and 3G eSIM support, similar to the Fireboltt Dream “wristphone,” as well as 5Ghz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. In addition to this, the Xiaomi Watch S3 also gets one-handed gesture controls, similar to those found on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, which allow you to accept or reject calls, and launch apps, amongst other things.

It also gets a 5 ATM water-resistance rating, and a 486mAh battery with a battery life of up to a whopping 15 days, depending on your usage. What’s more, it also gets quick charge support, with just five minutes of charge providing for as much as two days of usage, Xiaomi claims.

Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro features and key specifications

Now, if you’re looking for something a little more minimalistic, check out the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro. The fitness tracker gets a 1.74-inch AMOLED display with 256 levels of adaptive brightness and a peak brightness of 600 nits. It is encased in a metallic frame and gets Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

What’s more, the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro is the thinnest amongst Xiaomi’s new crop of wearable devices, at just 9.99mm thick.

The fitness tracker comes with over 150 sports modes as well and even gets a smart running mode – wherein users can set a target running speed before starting. The watch then sends them pace reminders throughout their run, to help them stay on track.

It also gets GNSS support and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity but misses out on calling capabilities.
