Netflix has finally dropped the first official trailer for its animated series Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. This is an action-heavy spy thriller from the creator of John Wick and is based on the videogame series. All eight episodes of the first season hit the streaming platform on October 14.
An older Sam Fisher, a new voice actor, and a ton of action
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch reintroduces an older, grizzled Sam Fisher who gets dragged out of his quiet retirement in Eastern Europe for one last high-stakes mission.
The plot kicks off when a younger agent, Zinnia McKenna, gets wounded on a job, forcing Fourth Echelon to reactivate their legendary operative. The mission centres on a conspiracy involving a mysterious wristwatch containing dangerous blueprints and the infamous company Displace International.
This story is designed to be a fresh chapter, treating the entire game series as Fisher’s canonical backstory.

Series creator Derek Kolstad brings his signature style, stuffing the trailer with brutal fistfights, frantic car chases, and plenty of gunfire. It feels a world away from the patient, methodical stealth the games are famous for. The slick animation comes from Sun Creature and Fost, studios with impressive credits like Love, Death + Robots and Wolfwalkers.
Long-time fans will immediately notice a big change. Liev Schreiber is voicing the iconic operative instead of Michael Ironside. The show’s creators apparently wanted a new sound for this new era of Splinter Cell.
The new series seems to be leaning into the archetypal spy thriller, which could be a thrilling ride even if it isn’t the stealth masterpiece some might have hoped for.
The most recent Splinter Cell video game released was Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist in 2013, but a remake of the original 2002 game was announced in 2021 and is currently in development.
