Nothing Phone (4a) update rolls out bringing in new features

Nothing is rolling out its first update for the recently launched Phone (4a). It brings plenty of new features including customisation options and everyday usability improvements.

The smartphone ships with Android 16 based Nothing OS 4.1 out of the box with three guaranteed OS updates. The Nothing Phone (4a) is already available for purchase globally.

Nothing Phone (4a) software update introduces fresh features

According to the community post, Nothing is expanding its Live Updates feature across Always-On display, status bar, lock screen, and notifications. Users can track ongoing activities like rides, deliveries, or timers without having to open individual apps.

The feature is available for Uber, Zomato, Just Eat, and Google Maps. Additionally, live updates also integrates with the phone’s Glyph Bar showing progress indicators through LED lights when the phone is placed on a surface.

Nothing says that additional app support may vary depending on local availability and app integration.

Nothing is introducing Breathing Break widgets on the Phone (4a). It is designed to help users relax or refocus during the day with three modes—focus, relax, and calm with tuned haptic patterns.

The brand is also making refinements to the Soundscape widget and that feature will arrive in the next OTA update. Nothing is also bringing a fan-made lock screen, previously seen on the Phone (3a) Community Edition. Users can adjust clock sizes and alignment options for a more personalised layout.

The Essential Space also gets a redesign making the interface easier to navigate. The new homepage surfaces summaries, events, and tasks in a clear structure. There’s also a new recommendation section that highlights useful widgets to personalise the home screen.
